"Connect Online. Profit Offline"
You started a blog. You have a Facebook account. You're on LinkedIn. You've even tweeted a few times. In short, you understand that social media can help grow your business. But how do you seamlessly tie it all together and connect online with both your peers and clients?
In this three-part seminar, you will learn how social media really works and develop an individualized plan that works for your business--and your busy schedule.

Session One: Build Your Online Brand (Tuesday, September 14th 7:30 a.m.)
A personal blog should be the foundation of your business' social media plan. Done right, a blog will showcase your unique expertise and understanding of the latest trends in your industry.
In this session, we will discuss how to build and maintain your blog. You will learn:
· How to write blog posts that get forwarded
· How to write headlines that Google likes (i.e. search engine optimized)
· How to link to other blogs and articles.
· How to find and use copyright-free photos.
· How to find and embed videos
· How to begin promoting your blog via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, RSS feeds and email subscriptions.
*For this session, we will work on the Wordpress platform, which is the most popular of the free blog platforms. By the start of class, attendees should have registered for Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Session Two: Grow Your Online Network (Tuesday, September 28th 7:30 a.m.)
Your blog is up and running and you understand the basics of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Now it's time to find the people--peers and/or clients--you want to connect with online and do so in a professional, authentic way.
In this class, we will focus in-depth on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. You will learn:
· How each platform works and what they are best used for.
· How to create profiles on each platform that attract followers
· How to find the peers and clients you want to do business with on each platform.
· How to share your expertise without being annoying (and unfriended).
We will also discuss how to stay organized while keeping up with social media. You will learn:
· How to monitor your blog’s daily traffic and understand how people are finding your blog.
· How to keep track of and continue talking with your followers on Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn
· How to use RSS readers to stay on top of your industry’s news and trends.
· How to decide if new sites/technologies are right for your business needs. Four Square, anyone?
*For this session, attendees should have registered accounts on Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
“Connect Online. Profit Offline” is developed and taught by Tracy Samantha Schmidt. Tracy is the co-founder and editorial director of ChicagoNow, a network of more than 400 blogs owned by the Chicago Tribune. She is also an adjunct professor at DePaul University’s College of Communications. Previously, Tracy was a staff reporter and web producer at Time Magazine.
We are keeping this workshop limited to very small group to make sure every one receives individual attention.
